in modern frame. Signed lower right corner. Executed by daughter of William
Edward Norton of her sister. Purchased directly from the family in Arlington,
MA in the 1980's. Currently on display in Room 3 of the Museum complex.

Framed: 16 " h x 22 "w. Ornate gilded frame from the period in fragile
but restorable condition. Painting in fine condition. Reverse side reveals
framers' label and faint pencil notations or initials. Masterful execution
of maritime seascape. Portrays two-masted ship aground off the cliffs,
at twilight. Interesting landscape with attention to light. Composition
and execution style of this small but detailed painting may be reminiscent
to, or have been influenced by the larger work of Gustave Corbet: Plage
de Normandia, and The Stormy Sea (The Wave).
