|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wood (unidentified species). 69" tall x 17.5" wide(max.) +/- 700 AD. Early Hindu hand-carving, typical of Buddhist art and iconography native to India, which developed in the early years of the first millennium. This Bodhisatva is similar in style to a Dancing Shiva from Elura (Cave 21) (illustrated on page 190 of Lee's A History of Far Eastern Art.) The carving was sold as part of the estate of an unidentified New York City collector. |
